Church Safeguarding FAQs
Getting Started
-
Safe Pathways is an all-in-one safeguarding platform for Canadian churches. It brings volunteer training, insurance-specific policies, Police Check tracking, automated workflows, and audit reporting together in one place.
-
Churches usually have the plan. They know what safeguarding requires. The hard part is the follow-through, getting it done consistently, references completed, training finished, policies acknowledged, and the proof, keeping the records that show it was done. Safe Pathways automates the follow-through so nothing falls through the cracks, and keeps the proof in a time-stamped Audit Report you can produce in minutes.
-
Book a demo. Once you sign up, you will complete a short church profile, receive your policy suite and resources, and start onboarding volunteers. Most churches are up and running within a week.
Training
-
Under 20 minutes per pathway. Volunteers only learn what is relevant to their role.
-
Short, role-specific training tracks: Introduction, Babies & Toddlers, Children, Youth, Vulnerable Adults, and Comprehensive. Each includes video and a quiz.
-
Yes. Watch Party lets you show training in a group setting with printed quizzes and sign-in sheets, while recording individual completion for each attendee.
-
Safe Pathways keeps a permanent record and automatically reminds volunteers when it’s time to renew.
-
Yes. Every pathway ends with a quiz that requires 100% to pass. If a volunteer gets a question wrong, the platform takes them straight to the part of the video that covers that concept. They watch it, then try again.
-
Yes. Annual refresher training keeps credentials current. The platform tracks expiry dates and sends reminder emails automatically. Because returning volunteers can go straight to the quiz and review only what they have forgotten, refreshers are much faster than the first time through.
Policies
-
We have built a complete safeguarding policy for each major Canadian church insurer. You receive the one that matches your insurer. It contains exactly what they require, plus optional clauses and editable resources like consent forms and board resolutions.
-
A complete safeguarding policy written for your insurer, containing exactly what they require. Adopt it as written, and your policy matches what your insurer asks for. Safe Pathways offers policies custom-aligned for Ecclesiastical, Intact, Northbridge, Robertson Hall, Wynward, and more.
-
Yes. Everything is yours to edit and keep, even if you leave. No approval required, and no membership paywall.
Switching Programs
-
If your current program charges annual membership fees on top of per-person training costs, requires two or more hours of training per volunteer, locks your policies behind a membership, or makes you get approval before you can edit your own safeguarding documents, there is a better way. With Safe Pathways you own everything and pay one transparent price.
-
We help import your volunteer data. And because our pathways are under 20 minutes, even starting fresh is not a heavy lift.
-
A policy document is a good start. But a policy on paper only protects your church if it is actually implemented, and if you can show it was. Safe Pathways gives you the right policy for your insurer, then automates the implementation and keeps the record.
Technical
-
Yes. When connected, your people and volunteer information syncs into Safe Pathways, so you do not have to create accounts or re-enter data by hand.
-
Churches can order Police Checks through Safe Pathways and see pass or clear status, and the report itself, inside the platform.
-
Your data is stored on Canadian cloud servers in compliance with Canadian privacy laws, monitored around the clock, and protected by current security tools. Safe Pathways is PIPEDA compliant and runs regular system updates to help defend against new cyber threats.
Pricing
-
Pricing runs from $14.99 down to $6.99 per volunteer per year, depending on how many volunteers you cover. The more you train, the lower your per-volunteer rate. Everything is included, and volume and denominational pricing are available. See the full breakdown on our pricing page.
-
Any volunteer who needs training and screening. Most churches include everyone who serves with or around children, youth, and vulnerable adults, not just their direct ministry team. Admin access for staff is included at no extra cost.
